Invitation: BABEL, The Creative Encounter of Indigenous Youth In The Peruvian Amazon
With much enthusiasm, we’re delighted to invite you to “BABEL: The Creative Encounter of Indigenous Youth In The Peruvian Amazon”, a presentation and discussion panel on this new production by indigenous media Radio Ucamara created in collaboration with The Chaikuni Institute and the Student Organization of Indigenous Peoples In The Peruvian Amazon (OEPIAP), with support from The Red Eclesial PanAmazónica (REPAM).
“Many moons ago, there were no rivers
Strong arms, bow and arrow, a melding
Created thousands of sizes and shapes
And so appeared the river, the great serpent”
(Chorus of “Babel”)
This musical production features 9 young indigenous people singing in 7 native languages: Kukama, Wampis, Kandozi, Awajún, Kichwa, Ticuna and Shawi. The song is the result of the collective work of these young artists and Radio Ucamara.
After the screening of the video there will be a discussion panel among the young indigenous artists, followed by comments from guests including Leonardo Tello Imaina and Rita Muñoz from RADIO UCAMARA, Miguel Angel Cadenas, and our very own Sandra Soto from Chaikuni’s Intercultural Education “Sui Sui” Program.
‘Babel’ proposes a creative encounter between the Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon, their memory, their cosmovisions and their relationship with the world.
